Anyone have experience with this headset. Cardo scala-rider™ Bluetooth® headset

One of those was included with my TomTom Rider 2 GPS and though I haven't had much experience with it, it is a nice design and works fine. Much better than
my cellphone earpiece, in fact. It's compact and light, seems weatherproof and the sound quality is OK, though not as powerful as with my Collett
Communicator. My unit is mono and has just one speaker, so MP3 is not much of an option, but Scala has other stereo models. I havent ridden fast enough to
judge the effectiveness of the voice activation or noise suppression at speed - but I don't feel like talking when I'm having fun. I have just one
unit, but a pair would make a fine driver-passenger intercom. Forget about bike-to-bike communication with Bluetooth, except at stoplights - the range just
isn't there.
The only glitch so far is the shortness of the mike boom: On my Shoei flip-up helmet, I didn't have much leeway in positioning the unit and the mike falls between my cheek and the helmet, not the optimal location. I suppose that a standard full-face wouldn't have this issue. Installation is very easy and takes two minutes. Ride safe |

When I ride, I prefer to ignore the phone.
That being said, I know an FJR rider that uses the Scala-rider for intercom with his passenger. He likes them. Has about 75 foot range too so if she fell off, he could hear her scream for about 1 second.

Which Shoei flip-up helmet do you have? Is it quiet, both with and without a windshield?

Thanks for the replies everyone. My main reason for getting this is mp3 music from my cell phone, secondary would be rider/pass. & bike to bike
communication. I'll explore other options before deciding.

I bought a Shoei Multitec last fall. It feels more noisy than my RF900, but this is mostly because there is much less padding in the ear pocket, to accomodate
the hinge mechanism. I don't think there is much difference in aerodynamics, but every noise is more audible. I am hearing all sorts of ticks, zips and
rumbles now, and it's not because my hearing improves with age... So, I will keep the RF for road trips and the Multitec for commuting. Or maybe earplugs?
