I'm not so sure there will be much of a T-Rally this year. So far, only Terry and I have indicated a desire to attend.

Al,
Please feel free to do any and all cheer leading. That is not my cup of tea. I, for one do not need to be cheered on to get on my T and go....well, just about anywhere as long as the temp is above 40 degrees. B |

Brian,
That week I will be riding to the Jersey Shore to spend some time with my family who have rented a 4 bedroom place in Ocean City, NJ. Come Thursday morning I will be pointing the front end of my bike towards WV. If there is no rally there that week I will be visiting my cousin either in Wallace at his home or east of Elkins where he has a cabin. Either way I am going ride the wonderful twisty roads of WV. I would prefer to ride with you, LadyACE and anybody else that shows up.

I need someone to step up for me. | #31 | ||
|
I regret that due to some unforeseen circumstances, I do not see me having time to head up this rally. For the last month and for possibly the next several
months, I will be taking care of my 88 year old mother's needs. She is not ill, though she may have had a minor stroke that left her with difficulty
swallowing. Terry and I have spent the last 4 or 5 weeks looking for and placing her in a senior living home that we could afford. Besides running our
business, teaching classes and making sure mom gets to doctor appointments, physical therapy and taking care of her financial responsibilities, I see no way of
making the 7th annual rally a reality. I simply have too much to do. Terry and I have been getting 6 or less hours sleep a day with the current workload.
I apologize for putting you all in this situation this late in the game. I was waiting to see if the time restraints would ease up once she was placed in a home. Alas, that has not and likely will not happen for at least a while longer. To whoever takes the reins: Please don't feel obligated to have the rally in July as I originally planned. From my point of view, July looks like it may not have been such a great idea anyway. Brian |

Brian....sorry to read about your mothers condition. I sympathize with you however because my wife and I are going through the exact same thing with her
mother. My wife and I have spent about 5 hours together this whole past week. It is a tough and demanding situation.
Things will work out about the rally. They always do.

I also can sympathize with your situation, Brian. Carol and I dealing with her dad's stage 2 dementia. He has to be watched 24/7 now. It can get demanding,
but you have to do...what you have to do. The rally will work out fine and I'm sure someone else can step in for you.

All those planning to attend the 7th Annual T Rally, we can continue at Seneca Rocks as Brian had planned, or another option is we can set-up base camp in one
of the four hotels 32 miles west of Seneca Rocks in Elkins, WV. In Seneca Rocks we have a choice of
Smoke Hole Motel & Log Cabins or
Yokum's Vacationland . In Elkins there is a Hampton Inn, a Holiday Inn Express, a Super8 and a Days Inn. The Holiday Inn Express has
an indoor pool and a whirlpool. I know that is important to Tony.
Some of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed have been in cabins, but usually the disadvantage of a cabin is less flexibility and less services. The last cabin I stayed in was just such a place. It was on a gorgeous lake. I had the use of row boat or canoe. The sunsets there were spectacular. It also had no phone, no TV and no Internet connection. Consequently when I left I ended-up travelling 4-1/2 hours in heavy rain until I was too cold and soaked to go any further. I stopped early and stayed in an expensive hotel just to dry out and start feeling human again. If I would have had a TV or an Internet connection I would have know that I could have avoided that rain by travelling one hour west which would have permitted me to ride a full day instead of a partial day and stay at a reasonably priced hotel. At last year's T Rally we decided as a group to move to a hotel 140 miles south of our original hotel. Besides one hour that allowed us to ride two days rain-free. Hotels are flexible enough that we can just check-out and go somewhere else if the weather there is not to our liking. That may not be possible with a cabin. As beautiful and fun as a cabin can be, I vote to stay in a hotel in Elkins, but I will respect the decision of the group. Please let me know what you prefer. Thanks.

Elkins -
The least expensive room at the Elkins Holiday Inn Express is $96 per night. Type of bed and whether it is smoking or non-smoking is not guaranteed. It is determined at arrival. The Holiday Inn Express has a pool and hot tub. The Elkins Super8 is $57/night. Days Inn is $60/night. The lowest price at the Hampton Inn is $109/night. The Hampton has a pool, no hot tub. Seneca Rocks - http://www.smokehole.com/lodging.html There is a pool here and large jacuzzi tubs, also a TV. http://www.yokum.com/lodging.htm There are hot tubs outside the cabins here. Not bad rates either if we share. http://www.yokum.com/rates.htm

One of the options I would certainly entertain is staying in one of the motel rooms at Yokum's Vacationland, Senaca Rocks, WV. One of the things that
concerns me about a cabin is every year a large number of the members that are interested in attending the T Rally back-out in the last few days, or just do
not show-up. If someone were dependent on having one or more cabin-mates and they do not show-up that someone gets stuck with the cost of the whole cabin.
With a hotel room, at Yokum's or anywhere else, if some riders do not show-up I am only responsible for my one room, the same as if I were travelling
alone.
Smokehole also has reasonably-priced motel rooms with queen-size beds, phones, TVs, and maid service. I would be willing to stay there too if others like their rooms or cabins better. Smoke Hole's 900 sq.ft. Riverside cabins sleep up to 6 (two bedrooms and a loft with 2 queen and 2 twin beds), have wireless Internet, a pool, a fully equipped kitchen, maid service, a fireplace, grill and a picnic table for $139 on Thursday night and $169 each for Friday and Saturday night. There is a 2 night minimum. The only jacuzzis at Smoke Hole are in the Riverside Honeymoon Log Cabins and the Honeymoon Suite in the Motel. Those accommodations only have 1 bed. At Yokum's you can get cabins with a large jacuzzi tub or outdoor hot tubs. Their new cabins with the outdoor hot tubs have 2 bedrooms and a loft with 1 queen, 2 full size and 4 twin beds for $200 per night. Wireless or high-speed Ethernet access is available. Camping is available at both Smoke Hole (with full hook-ups and cable TV RVs, no tents, are $25 on Thursday night and $35 each on Friday and Saturday night), and at Yokum's (tents are $5 per night, pop-ups with electricity are $15.50 per night and RVs are $17.50 per night).

FFKP,
Would you prefer to stay in a hotel in Elkins (Holiday Inn Express, Hampton, Super8, Days Inn) or in Seneca Rocks (Smoke Hole, Yokum's)? In Elkins you have the advantages of check-out early if you want to go somewhere else due to the weather or otherwise, and more choices in restaurants. In Seneca Rocks you have beautiful scenery and a vacation/resort atmosphere, but most likely only one restaurant within walking distance and some accommodations require a minimum two-day stay. I would be willing to do either. Of the 6 prior Annual T Rallies, only two of them did we run into any rain during the two days that we are riding together. The last one, last year, it was good that we did have the opportunity to relocate 140 miles south and avoid almost all of the rain. The first Annual T Rally, we did not stay in one place, but rather three (a different hotel in a different city each night). When it rained on our ride in Michigan we rode into it and then out of the rain again. We were in effect changing hotels to avoid the rain although we did not do it intentionally because of the rain. Anyway, what I am trying to say is that given the history of this event we probably have a 2/3's chance that there will be no rain and staying in a resort could be a lot of fun. Tony could rent a cabin with an outdoor hot tub which would meet one of his criteria for a good place to stay. I could stay in the hotel part of the resort and feel comfortable that I will not get stuck paying for a cabin by myself. There are a lot of attractions in the area. http://www.yokum.com/attractions.htm It could be a lot of fun. The big question is - Who wants to stay in Elkins, WV? Who wants to stay in Seneca Rocks, WV?
