thinking about selling 2000 tourer |

Bike has 7700 miles and was like new when I got it 4 months ago . I have put over 2500 miles on it and dont know of anything wrong with it . If this bike would
bring 6500 I could shop this winter for another bargain in a 750 Shadow .My wife does not care anything about riding with me and the 750 is easier for me to
handle and gets better mileage . Am I making a mistake ?
thanks for any help PHILLIP |

carver,
have you tried a 750? i see a lot of them for sale on kansas city craigslist. always figured it was because they were under powered and too "little". i've never ridden one, but they are a good looking bike. then again, you have a beautiful T. bud |

It seems like at the moment you get blinded by some kind of logic that mkes it okay, but later on you regret that decision. I've done that so many times that I now know I'm hanging onto my Tourer until my body tells me that my T is doing more harm than good. And even then I'll probably make a momument out of it in the yard where I can sit and stare at it from my rocker.
You've got to do what's right for you. There are many here on the forum that have moved on from ownership of a Tourer. It's not a bad thing. What would be a bad thing would be for you to feel that you no longer belong here just because you moved onto another bike. Do what's best for you and stick around.

The 750 Shadow is not that much smaller than the 1100. It is a little lighter, but does not handle as well. It has plenty of power for general riding, but is
stretching a bit for a longish highway run.
You will not get $6500 for the "T". Strip all the touring stuff of it (bags, windshield, etc........) so it doesn't feel as bulky, and keep riding it. You won't like the "feel" of the 750 as compared to the ACE T. Just my 2 cents.............. -Dan |

The VT750 is Honda's top selling street bike for good reason: It's a good package. The newer ones are now shaft drive but I don't think any have a
rear disk brake. Even the 2009 models still use a single 34mm carburetor so compared directly to the 1100's dual carbs (Honda's too cheap to put FI on
these old designs). Other comparisons are it weighs about 100lbs less but it needs periodic valve lash inspection/adjustment whereas the 1100 has hydraulic
self-adjusters. There may have been some models with cast wheels but all the spoke-wheeled Shadows use tubes in bias-ply tires.
It is a very popularly supported bike by the aftermarket vendors. Easy to find farkles. Obviously it doesn't have as much power as the 1100 but unless you're a big boy, it will be fine for solo rides assuming you're not a speed demon. Give one a try. If it meets your needs, make the switch. Good luck.

Keep your T and buy an older 750 for cheap. Best of both worlds.
I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'. |

OK now...here's my
I've owned both the VT750 Ace and a T. The 750 does not handle any better and the 100 lbs lighter weigh is barely noticeable when stopped. When moving though, you can't tell any differences in weight at all. I've ridden both on Deals Gap and both handled it like a champ. You will not gain MPG as the 750 is geared lower and still gets only 42 mpg avg. Bottom line; Keep the T. You've already made the investment in it and there's no point in taking a loss on it. The comfort of the T far outweighs the comfort of the 750 on long trips and the interstate. I would have never considered riding the 750 for 300 miles a day, but had no problem riding the T that far and further. Stan ![]() ![]()
